One of the most popular of Malama's
recurring activities is the self-guided walking tour of Manoa Valley
historic homes and neighborhoods. Generally conducted once every
two years, the two to three mile walk begins with a check-in at
Kamanele Park at the corner of University Avenue and Ka'ala Street at
8:30 a.m. and ends with refreshments from 10:00 a.m. to noon at a
convenient location such as College Hill, home of University of Hawaii
President.
The leisurely stroll through beautiful
lower Manoa Valley features numerous properties listed on the State
Register of Historic Homes with background information on each
one. Four or five of these registered homes are open for viewing,
with docents stationed in varous rooms and areas to describe the homes'
features in detail. In typical Manoa tradition, this event takes
place - rain or shine.
