Malama o Manoa
recently instituted a new program for recognizing and celebrating Manoa
homes which typify many of the cherished characteristics and features
which make our Manoa Valley special. These annual Recognition
Awards are meant to identify and reward architectural and other
property-related “gifts” to the Manoa community in four categories:
- Restoration of an existing home or construction of a new home
which preserves a traditional style.
- Creation of a property border or landscaping enhancing the
neighborhood.
- People or projects that make a difference, especially in Building
Community and Celebrating the Valley’s Cultural Diversity.
- Any effort in Sustainability that goes to Protect or Revive a
valued aspect of Manoa.
Six Manoa families were honored in 2004, the first year of the annual
award: three homes for restoration, two homes for
landscaping/walls and one new home for its traditional
style. The awards were presented on Wednesday October
13th at the Malama o Manoa Annual Membership Meeting held at Manoa
Gardens off the Kahaloa Drive entrance to the Manoa Regional
