Annual Recognition Awards

Malama o Manoa recently instituted a new program for recognizing and celebrating Manoa homes which typify many of the cherished characteristics and features which make our Manoa Valley special. These annual  Recognition Awards are meant to  identify and reward architectural and other property-related “gifts” to the Manoa community in four categories:


Six Manoa families were honored in 2004, the first year of the annual award:  three homes for restoration, two homes for landscaping/walls and one new home for its traditional style.   The awards were presented  on Wednesday October 13th at the Malama o Manoa Annual Membership Meeting held at Manoa Gardens off the Kahaloa Drive entrance to the Manoa Regional Park. 

The 6 awards for 2004 were:
   
1.  2317 Armstrong Street           Catherine Conrad                 "for restoring the 1928 Tavares residence"

2.  2536 Manoa Road                   Cindy & Alan Dorflinger    "for landscape with hibiscus and lavarock wall terraces"

3.  3118 Huelani                            Jade Ching & David            "for restoring the 1926 Weller residence"

4.  3018 Puhala Rise                     Pamela and Steven Nishi      "for restoring AINA OKIKA, a historic place"

5.  3653 Wooodlawn Drive          Aileen Hirakami                     "for landscaped terraces with tropical flora and moss rock walls"

6.  3491 East Manoa Road           Donna and Tom Tanimura   "for utilizing traditional features from the 1930'-1950's in a new                                                                                                                       home"
